How to be a Christian

New Christian: First Steps

So, what to do now?

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Ecclesiastes 12:13

Where are the commandments of God? His Word. The Bible (KJV). Jesus is the Word:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

along with:

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

How much of the Bible do we need to read?:

And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” Luke 4:4

So we need every word. How often? From the Lord’s prayer:

Give us this day our daily bread.” Matthew 6:11

And what is the “bread”: Jesus is the bread:

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life…” John 6:35

So, read the Bible (KJV) daily and keep all the commandments. (How to keep all the commandments? Ask God to show you.) Start at the beginning of the Bible, and when you finish, then start again. And again…

You won’t understand all of it at once, which is another reason why you have to read the Word daily:

For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:” Isaiah 28:10

You must also have faith.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

and:

“Now the just shall live by faith…” Hebrews 10:38

What is faith? Answer: Believing God. (Believing Jesus. Believing the Word. Believing the Bible):

“Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.” John 20:27

Note the portion that says: “... be not faithless, but believing”. Faith is believing God.

Another way to look at faith:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

Where do we get faith? Read the Bible (KJV):

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17

Also, pray for faith as it is also a gift of the Holy Spirit:

“To another faith by the same Spirit…” 1 Corinthians 12:9

Always pray to God in the name of Jesus:

At that day ye shall ask in my name…” John 16:26

And always add, “thy will be done” because we want God”s will not ours. Jesus gave us this example:

“...O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” Matthew 26:39

Pray about all matters– and always pray:

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6,

and

Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17
